Electric Tankless Water Heater Installation in Lake Forest: Panels, Sizing and Repipe Timing

Braided water heater flex connector – Electric Tankless Water Heater Installation for Lake Forest, CA homes

Electric tankless suits some Lake Forest homes and not others. Panel capacity, sizing for El Toro water, and why to install it during a repipe.

Electric tankless water heaters get a lot of attention: no gas line, no venting, a compact unit on the wall. For the right Lake Forest home, they are a good fit. For others, the electrical upgrade needed makes them impractical. Here is how to tell which side of that line your home is on, and how to plan the install if you are also replacing your pipes.

Where electric tankless makes sense

The big question: your electrical service

A whole-house electric tankless unit draws a lot of power while it runs, far more than a typical tank heater. Large units often need multiple dedicated high-amperage breakers.

Many Lake Forest homes from the 1970s and 1980s, in Sunset Ridge, the older tracts near Lake Forest Drive and around the lakes, were built with electrical service that was fine for their day but may not have room for that load. Newer homes in Foothill Ranch and Baker Ranch are more likely to have capacity, but it still needs to be checked.

Before choosing electric tankless, a licensed electrician should confirm:

  1. The size of your main service and panel
  2. How much of that capacity is already used (AC, EV charger, pool equipment, kitchen)
  3. Whether the unit you want would require a service upgrade

Panel and circuit work is electrical work and is done by a licensed electrician. We coordinate with your electrician so the plumbing and electrical are ready at the same time.

Sizing for Lake Forest water

Tankless units are sized by flow rate and temperature rise. In winter, incoming water is cooler, so the unit has to work harder. Think about how many showers and fixtures run at once in your home. An undersized unit gives lukewarm water when two showers run.

Why install during a repipe

If you are already planning a whole-house repipe, it is the cleanest time to switch to tankless.

We repipe with PEX-A (Uponor/Wirsbo expansion, ASTM F1960), which handles the temperature and pressure demands of a tankless system well.

Gas or electric?

If your home already has gas at the water heater location and adequate gas line size, gas tankless is often the simpler choice for whole-house demand. Electric shines in point-of-use or all-electric plans. We will tell you honestly which fits your home.
